Certification Update: What the Unification of the ASCP and NCA Means for the Industry

December 09, 2009

After approximately three decades, two of the largest national certification bodies for laboratory personnel, the ASCP Board of Registry and the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel have unified to form a single credentialing agency that took effect this October under the new ASCP Board of Certification.

This means significant changes for labs relating to personnel.

For one, there are certain title changes—medical technologists (MT) and clinical laboratory scientists (CLS) will now be known as medical laboratory scientists (MLS). In addition, clinical laboratory technicians will now be designated as medical laboratory technicians (MLT).

While this move promises more clarity for both employers and personnel alike, it also raises some key questions about how this landmark change will affect other employment issues at laboratories and health care institutions.

Join Washington G-2 Reports on Wednesday, December 9th at 2PM ET to get the must-have, critical information on this transition from leading experts from the new ASCP Board of Certification, as well as the director of a medical laboratory science education program who is currently engaged in implementing these changes.

Register today for this intensive interactive webinar, and in just 90 minutes, you’ll gain a thorough understanding of what the unification means for the industry, and, get the information you need to comply with these new certification requirements.

Participants will learn:

  • The background and the catalyst for unification
  • What are the benefits to employers, professionals, and students of a unified credentialing agency
  • How this will impact the industry in terms of Board of Certification exams, licensure titles, and related credentialing processes
  • What challenges some labs are facing in implementing these changes—and what future challenges labs should expect
  • What challenges educational programs face in implementing these changes

In addition, you will also have the opportunity to ask questions in our interactive Q&A portion of the program. Invite your entire staff to listen in for one low fee.

Register today for just $295. Washington G-2 subscribers pay only $265! Unable to attend? Order the CD today!
