BREAKING NEWS: The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) on July 3 released a much anticipated draft bidder’s package for its planned clinical laboratory services competitive bidding demonstration project. But while the draft package contains information about the design of the demonstration and the bidding process, it leaves many questions unanswered. Although CMS attempted to answer some of these questions during an open door forum July 16, industry groups continue to have numerous concerns about the demonstration; including the impact the demonstration will have on small laboratories, which CMS defines as those that are expected to supply less than $100,000 in demonstration test annual Medicare payments in the competitive bid area. Lawmakers also are concerned—the House Small Business Committee on July 25 held a hearing on just this issue.
During this 90-minute national audio conference, two well-known industry experts will help put into context what we know and don’t know about the planned competitive bidding demonstration, will provide insight into what the next steps are likely to be, and will offer advice on what you should do if your lab is required to place a bid.
