Stanley J. Geyer
Stanley J. Geyer, M.D., created Geyer Pathology Services LLC to promote best
clinical and business practices in pathology and laboratory medicine. Dr.
Geyer draws on his extensive experience in the leadership and management
of pathology groups and clinical laboratories. He has served as the medical
director of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Georgetown
University Hospital and as professor of pathology at Georgetowns School of Medicine where he consolidated numerous extra-departmental laboratories under the
direction of the Department of Laboratory Medicine.
During his tenure as
chairman of pathology and laboratory medicine at the Western
Pennsylvania Hospital and as adjunct professor of pathology at the Temple
University School of Medicine, Dr. Geyer directed the clinical efforts of the hospital department
and mentored students in the hospitals teaching program and
at the medical school campus. Additionally, he served as the site investigator
on a grant from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality to study the
effects of pathology errors on patient safety. Dr. Geyer then served as the
chairman of pathology of the Urban Central Region Hospitals of Intermountain
Healthcare and as the chairman of Intermountains system-wide anatomic
pathology development team.
Dr. Geyers accomplishments in these roles
reflect his vision and leadership in diverse areas devoted to improving quality
and efficiency through standardization of practices and through the evaluation
and acquisition of new technology. His career-long interest in autopsy pathology,
pulmonary pathology, technology assessment, and quality improvement in pathology
led to the formation of Geyer Pathology Services LLC.
Dr. Geyer provides consultation
services to a company devoted to the development of automated multispectral
imaging technology to improve the practice of pathology. He also serves as
an associate medical director of a laboratory devoted to improving the availability
and utility of diagnostic genetic testing through a Web-enabled DNA testing
process. Dr. Geyer also offers medical-legal consultations in occupational
and environmental pathology.
He has authored or co-authored book chapters,
scientific abstracts, and more than 40 original articles that have appeared
in peer-reviewed medical journals. He has been a speaker at national conferences
and meetings dealing with improving the quality of pathology practices and
with technology assessment and improvement.
