Paul Keoppel has over 35 years of experience working in the clinical laboratory profession. He has worked in hospitals, clinic consulting, commercial laboratory, a core laboratory, and corporate laboratory administration. His current position is the laboratory compliance officer at Intermountain Healthcare. Intermountain Healthcare is an integrated delivery network consisting of 22 hospitals, over 200 clinics, 500 employed physicians, 29,000 employees, and a companion managed-care insurance group.

Keoppel is a graduate of Weber State University with a B.S. in medical technology and a master’s in business administration. He is a registered medical technologist MT (ASCP). As compliance officer, his current duties include all aspects of regulatory compliance, including Medicare regulations, billing, HIPAA, CLIA, coding, and chargemaster maintenance. Keoppel is currently serving his third term by appointment on the CLMA Medicare billing issues committee. He is a past member of the CLMA health care policy committee. He has also served his local CLMA chapter as a board member and president.

Keoppel has presented or published at several national meetings including CLMA, AACC, ASCP, CAP, and Washington G2 Reports. Topics include compliance techniques, real life situations, laboratory regulations, and auditing tools.
