Frederick L. Kiechle
Since July 2006, Frederick L. Kiechle, M.D., Ph.D., has served as the director
of clinical pathology for the five hospitals (1,700 beds) of the Memorial
Healthcare System in Hollywood, Florida, working for Pathology Consultants
of South Broward. The laboratory system performed 7.4 million tests in 2005.
From
1988 to 2005, Dr. Kiechle was the chairman of the department of clinical
pathology and, from 1993 to 2005, the medical director of Beaumont Reference
Laboratory at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. That laboratory
performed 6.5 million tests in 2004 with 50% of the test volume from outreach.
Dr.
Kiechle has directed basic research in signal transduction pathways in insulin
action and apoptosis and has published 179 peer-reviewed articles or book
chapters and 202 abstracts. He is the author of the best selling laboratory
management book, The
Hitchhikers Guide to Improving
Efficiency in the Clinical Laboratory published by AACC Press. He
lectures nationally and internationally on basic research topics, point-of-care
testing, automation, laboratory design, outreach programs, and molecular
diagnostics.
