Earl C. Buck
Earl C. Buck is the vice president of operations management at Chi
Solutions Inc. and responsible for the consulting and management services division
of the company. He has worked in healthcare since 1967 and has been active
in the clinical laboratory industry since 1971.
During his career, Buck has
served as CEO of four clinical laboratory companies created to support the
needs of regional healthcare delivery systems. He was the managing principal
of Chi Laboratory Systems, director of hospital laboratory solutions for Quest
Diagnostics, executive director of clinical laboratories for Duke University
Health System, and a member of the American
Society for Clinical Pathology DLM Committee, which created the first diplomat in laboratory management (DLM-ASCP)
examination.
Buck is a 12-year member of the board of directors of the Clinical
Laboratory Management Association, as well as its past president. He is also
an affiliate member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Buck
has significant training in quality improvement, with a focus on total quality
management, and is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt, with application experience
in both hospital and commercial laboratory settings.
He has served as a speaker
at several presentations in the United States and Europe on topics related
to regional laboratory integration, collaboration, and matrix management.
Buck received his bachelors degree in biology
from the University of Minnesota and his medical technologist (ASCP) certification
following completion of the Navy program in medical technology. Buck completed
graduate coursework in systems management at the University of Southern California
and in business administration at the University of Northern Iowa.
