Barry Portugal
Barry Portugal is president of Health
Care Development Services Inc., a strategic
business planning management consulting firm. Health
Care Development Services Inc. is the nations oldest management consulting firm specializing
in healthcare system laboratory and pathology issues. Formed in 1981, HCDS
has represented more than 350 hospital, healthcare system, pathology group,
and multispecialty clinic clients in operational organizational, financial,
and market engagements.
Portugal consults with hospitals and healthcare
systems, pathology groups, and large multispecialty group practices. His
special area of interest is strategic planning and business development for
healthcare providers. In this role,
Portugal has designed business plans which have successfully achieved goals
desired by client organizations.
Portugal is a member of the American Hospital
Association Society for Hospital Planning; the Clinical Laboratory Management
Association; the American Association of Clinical Chemists; the American
Pathology Foundation; and the Medical Group Management Association.
Additionally,
Portugal has written articles that appeared in Clinical Laboratory Management
Review, Pathologist, Modern Healthcare, and the Medical Group Management
Association Journal. He has been a featured speaker at gatherings of the
American Hospital Association, Health Care Financial Management Association;
the American College of Healthcare Executives, Clinical Laboratory Management
Association; and the American Pathology Foundation focusing on hospital laboratory
and pathology strategic planning and business development issues.
Portugal
has undergraduate and graduate degrees in business administration from the
University of Illinois and the University of Pennsylvania, respectively. He
also attended Northwestern University School of Law.
